Author Guidelines

The journal Anatolé. Estudios del Próximo Oriente Antiguo welcomes original and unpublished contributions related to the studies of the Ancient Near East and related disciplines.

The journal operates under a continuous submission policy, and manuscripts may be submitted at any time of the year through its electronic platform. All submissions are incorporated into the editorial workflow in order of receipt and are subject to the journal’s established evaluation process.

The journal is published biannually, with issues released on 30 June and 30 December. In order to ensure the proper completion of the peer review, copy-editing and production processes, the editorial cut-off dates are set at 31 March for the June issue and 30 September for the December issue. Manuscripts that do not complete all stages of the editorial process within these deadlines will be considered for publication in the subsequent issue.

Detailed author guidelines, including manuscript structure, section organisation and formal presentation criteria, are provided in the journal's official template, which must be downloaded and used obligatorily for the preparation and submission of manuscripts. A specific template for book reviews is also available and must be used for this type of contribution.

These templates also specify the editorial style guidelines applicable to articles written in Spanish, including typographical, orthographic and bibliographic conventions. Strict compliance with these guidelines is a prerequisite for the admission of manuscripts to the evaluation process.

To ensure evaluation under the double-blind peer review system, authors must remove from the manuscript all information that may identify them, including names, affiliations, references, notes and acknowledgements, as well as any personal data contained in the file properties (document metadata).

The author guidelines and editorial style rules for articles written in English and Portuguese are available in the corresponding language versions of the journal’s website, where language-specific instructions and house styles are provided.

Research articles and contributions included in thematic dossiers are subject to external peer review, while book reviews, interviews and dossier presentation texts are evaluated directly by the Editorial Board. The peer review process has an estimated duration of eight to twelve weeks from the formal receipt of the manuscript.

The final decision regarding acceptance, rejection or the request for revisions rests with the Editor-in-Chief, based on the reviewers’ reports and the journal’s editorial policies.

The detailed guidelines for authors, concerning the structure of the manuscript, the organisation of its sections and the formal presentation criteria, are set out comprehensively in the , which must be downloaded and used obligatorily for the preparation and submission of manuscripts. The journal also provides authors with a , which must be downloaded and used for the preparation of this type of contribution.

These templates also specify the editorial style guidelines applicable to articles written in Spanish, together with the typographical, orthographic and bibliographical conventions governing publication in the journal. Strict compliance with these documents constitutes an essential requirement for the admission of manuscripts to the evaluation process. In order to initiate the editorial review process, authors must remove their names and any information that may identify the author of the submission from the text, references and notes, as well as delete all personal information contained in the file properties (document metadata), in order to guarantee the anonymity of the manuscript, which is likewise an indispensable requirement for its admission.

The guidelines for authors and the editorial style rules corresponding to articles written in English and Portuguese are available on the journal’s website in the respective language versions, where the specific instructions and the house style adapted to each language of publication are provided.
